THE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION
We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.
متن کاملHeavy quark energy loss in a nuclear medium.
Multiple scattering, modified fragmentation functions, and radiative energy loss of a heavy-quark propagating in a nuclear medium are investigated in perturbative QCD. Because of the quark mass dependence of the gluon formation time, the medium size dependence of heavy-quark energy loss is found to change from a linear to a quadratic form when the initial energy and momentum scale are increased...
متن کاملHeavy Quark Dynamics in the QGP
We assess transport properties of heavy quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) that show a strong non-perturbative behavior. A T-matrix approach based on a potential taken from lattice QCD hints at the presence of heavy-quark (HQ) resonant scattering with an increasing strength as the temperature, T , reaches the critical temperature, Tc ' 170 MeV for deconfinement from above. The implementatio...
متن کاملHeavy-quark symmetry and chiral dynamics.
We report on recent advances in the understanding of hadrons containing one heavy quark, providing a general introduction to the main ideas behind the heavy quark symmetry. We concentrate on the synthesis of heavy quark and chiral symmetries, describing recent calculations of heavy meson and baryon decays through processes involving strong, electromagnetic and semileptonic weak interactions.
متن کاملConstraining in-medium heavy-quark energy-loss mechanisms via angular correlations between heavy and light mesons
Two-particle correlations obtained from parton showers that pass the hot and dense medium of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) can be used as an alternative observable, in addition to the combination of the nuclear modification factor RAA and the elliptic flow v2, to study the mechanisms of in-medium heavy quark energy-loss. In particular, angular correlations represent a promising tool to distingui...
